in the power of Christ...{Thoughtful on a Tuesday}

Seconds turn to minutes to hours to days...
Jobs come and they go...
People build and people tear down...
Trends come and they go...
Storms rage, fires burn, earth quakes...
Seasons of life change with the turning tides.

Through it all...

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all-in-all
Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that Cross, as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
'Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand
'Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I stand
Here in the power of Christ alone

{Remembering on this Memorial Day...}

This weekend I've been remembering and thinking about loved ones that are singing in heaven.
I actually think know that I am finally starting to "feel" my latest grandpa's passing.
With it being summer, being able to slow down from work, not being sick like I was...
my heart is grieving. I am finally processing.

It is a type of grieving where only God can bring peace and has brought peace.
The way God sang to my heart that night Grandpa passed away I will never forget. I will never forget the words to, "It is Well." God used the verses of this hymn to comfort me when heartache was at it's worst, when life was at it's rawest, when nothing made sense.

"When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
It is well, with my soul.
It is well, it is well, with my soul."

I am remembering his laugh {he loved to laugh}, his smile, the way he would teach us to polka. Dancing from the kitchen to living room, back and forth. The work ethic and respect he had. The way he loved his coffee, gardening, and working with his hands.

 {Grandpa and I dancing the Polka. I'm guessing from the dress...this has to be around 5th grade maybe 6th?}

Even though he and my other grandparents are no longer here, they are still in my heart.
Found in the memories, those special moments spent with each of them that will last a life time.

Wishing you a wonderful Memorial Day and precious memories of those you hold dear!
~ In honor and memory of all those who have served and continue to serve. Thank You!
~in memory of my grandpa... Henry S. Jr. who served in service in the U.S. Army with the 35th Infantry Europe ETO

Weekend Thoughts...{Weekend Plans and blog news}

Happy Saturday!
I hope each of you are having a wonderful weekend where-ever you are.
This weekend started off with a hike...

A group of rock formations out in the middle of a field, in the middle of nowhere.
For perspective of how tall they are here are some other pictures...

"It doesn't look "that" steep..."
not until you start climbing up.

A friend, sister in Christ, and traveling sister, Rachel...

It was nice...
to be outside,
to see God's handiwork,
to get away.

Walking through the formations I was stopped by the way the sun just
burst off the rocks...

This would be my attempt at a sun-burst photo opp.

The rest of the weekend I'll be working in my yard,
spending time with my brother,
remembering the memories of my late grandpa,
planning some FUN with my best friend from college,
and I'm hoping some crafting.

{It's been awhile since I have had time to craft and I'm looking forward to it.}

What are your plans for Memorial Weekend?

Before I forget...
have you noticed?!?!....

Looking over Fences...{in}courage

A good friend recently told me,
“We are not equipped to handle the good nor the bad of the other side.”

We were having one of those deep girl talks.
The kind where you share your heart,
lay all out for the other to see.

It was one of the conversations where I confessed...

Join me over at {in}courage today to hear the rest, find the Hope of God, and rest for your heart.

{Right where I am...}

I've been reading the devotional book, "Jesus Calling," by Sarah Young...
and each and every time I read it...
God meets me right where I am.

Yesterday's devotional stuck with me...
I'd like to share with you a few words from it.

"Approach each new day with desire to find me. Before you get out of bed, I have already been working to prepare the path that will get you through this day."

Do I really begin/approach each new day with a desire to find Him?
How often do I let the daily routine of life come before my time with Him?
Is my one, true, desire to live fully for Him, not for the approval of man?

"There are hidden treasures strategically placed along the way. Some of the treasures are trials, designed to shake you free from earth-shackles. Others are blessings that reveal My Presence: sunshine, flowers, birds, friendships, answered prayer."

Do I see the trials of this life as blessings?
How do I count the blessings He has given?

{Colossians 2:2-3; Isaiah 33:6}

Words from a devotional, from God's Word, to reach us right where we are.
Questions to think upon, pray upon, to grow from.
{I'm gonna go grab a cup of coffee and sit some more with these verses/words. Will you join me?}

Do you have a favorite devotional?
What questions is God asking you?

P.S. I hope you'll join this journey tomorrow. I've got something {in}couraging to share with you.

* I was not paid for the mention of this devotional. It is just my honest opinion and wanting to share.*

Weekend Thoughts...{Poster Style}

How is your weekend going?

Yesterday I spent the day outside...
...beginning to clean out my flower bed (I'm a little behind)...
...potting some pink flowers...
...a nice long run/walk...

...It was beautiful!

 I'd love to hear what you have planned this weekend.
Do you garden?
Do you like to plant flowers?

Here are some encouraging posters to start your day!

When Seasons Change...{Five Minute Friday}

I am trying something new this Friday.

I am linking up with Lisa-Jo for Five Minute Friday.

Here is a little bit of her explanation of it:

"Got five minutes? Let’s write. Let’s write in shades of real and brave and unscripted.
Let’s just write and not worry if it’s just right or not."

When I read this week's prompt: When Seasons Change...
 I knew I wanted to give it a shot.
So here you go...
Five minutes of writing,
no editing,
thoughts that first came to mind.

When Seasons Change...

The "old" dies...
The "new" comes alive...

Sometimes I go cheerfully, expectantly...
Other times I hold back, fight, afraid of what is to be...

There is a common thread when seasons change...
...lives are changed
...hearts are changed
...out-looks are changed

Changed for eternity...
Nothing here on this earth ever stays the same...

The one constant...
The one reliable...
The one that never changes...

There to go before us...
There going with us...
There protecting us...

When seasons change...

we have a love so strong,
so true,
so powerful,
there for us.

His name is Immanuel.
Have a wonderful day,

I Find Him In...{Thoughtful on a Tuesday}

I Find Him In...

...the setting Kansas sun,
...wide, open fields of wheat,
...the breeze that blows against my face.

I Find Him In...

...the kind gesture of a co-worker,
...the sweet words of a friend,
...the worship song on the radio.

I Find Him In...

...the stillness that is morning before the world is awake,
...the eyes of students ready to learn,
...a sleeping newborn baby.

I Find Him In...

...the hug of my mother,
...the helping hands of my dad always silently protecting, even now,
...the laughs shared between the bonds of sisters and brother.

I Find Him In...

...the cleft of the rock,
...the trials that are insurmountable on my own,
...those that seek to kill and destroy.

I Find Him In...

...the sweet words of the Hymn, “It is Well,”
...the soft, worn, pages of my aged Bible,
...His promises kept.

Where Do You Find Him?

Praying the day God has given you is full of blessing!

Weekend Thoughts...{The best pie ever and some randomness}

Happy Saturday!!
We just finished our last day of school yesterday with students.
It was a great day with some wonderful 4th graders, soon-to-be 5th graders.
{All the while fighting a cold. meh...}
But, summer is basically right around the corner.

I'm a little behind on posting this week, but I actually think it is a blessing in disguise.
Blogger had some issues this week...
it pretty much crashed...
and many people lost posts and comments.

Blogger is working to get them back,
so if you see some comments on here missing that is why.
I hope they get it fixed soon.
I will reply soon to your emails and comments.

My current favorite color is yellow.
Who would've thought?!

I love the fashion of the Kentucky Derby so much...
The hats are gorgeous.
I'm thinking of making one for fun.
Why not? Right?!

In other news...
are you ready for the best pie ever?!
I actually haven't eaten this pie personally {yet...}...
but I love all things S'mores.
I was so bummed when DQ got rid of the S'mores Galore.
That though...was probably for the best...my pants best. {wink}

Here it is...
This pie actually gave me a fantastic idea for a summer get-together...
Still in the planning stages.

Hesston Barn Sale {Pretty Eye Candy}

Boy Oh  Boy!
Do I have some Pretty Eye Candy for you...

Remember the trip that I talked about yesterday that was...

I met some talented and amazing women...
all connected by blogging and the handmade world.
I just love when that happens!

I was so nervous at first...
and several of you know that I can get really quiet when I'm nervous.
that passed quickly because these three ladies made me feel at home. {Thank you}

I had seen Beki post about the Hesston Barn Sale and I knew that I could make it.
{Enter Fun Road Trip!}

How did I meet Beki you ask?
Well, I had found her blog through another blog which...
led me to her cute shop...

through modern media/technology...
we exchanged information about the sale...
and I said I'd be there.

When I arrived, I pulled up to a cute farmstead with an amazing red barn that...
reminded me much of the one my late Grandpa H. had on his farm.
There were cute shops lining their drive.

Everything from...
vintage finds,
handmade sewing,
handmade woodworking,
beautiful jewelery that was handmade,
and more!

~A beautiful, vintage find...a book of flower prints for $3.00~
This may just become part of my next DIY.
{If you were there and remember the name of the vintage finds please let me know...
I'd love to give a shout out.}

~Beautiful, yellow, happy "Pray" wall art by Amy D.~
{P.S. She had one that said, {Create}, that I wished I would've gotten too.}

~ A beautiful necklace by Beki from The Rusted Chain.~
Perfectly named, "Antique Elegance."
{Love it!}

~Yellow, verse, plaque with a verse that I love on it.~
 {I put it right by my door as a reminder when I head out for the day.
Again, if you know the name of those that sold this, please let me know, thanks!}

All in all...
it was a wonderful day of supporting the handmade market
meeting some great new friends that I hope to see again soon {maybe October} ;0).

I know I am forgetting a few names, please forgive me.

If you could choose one word for inspiration what would it be and why?

Have a Wonderful Day,

Oh My Reading Heart {teacher/homeschool/loveofbooks}

Have I mentioned lately that I love the written word?!
I also love, love, love to read!

Yesterday, I began and finished a book in one two sittings.

Oh. Muh. Word.
I couldn't put it down.

So, so much to this book that I loved...
that spoke volumes.
{It might have to be a separate blog post}

So, I got to thinking...
as a teacher that loves to read and teach reading. {wink}
I have a fantastic website for you to use.

It's great for the classroom.
Great for the Homeschooling family.
Great for someone looking for a new way to read books.

It is called Storyline Online.

It is by the Screen Actors Guild Society...
and they have actors/actresses reading aloud their favorite children's storybooks.
Not only do they read the books out-loud, but they also show the pages of the story in a movie like way.
{You'll have to check it out to see what I mean.}
And....it's free!

I use this site in my classroom to show students how to read and present in front of an audience.
They love it!

Tell me....
What is your favorite children's book?

Have a Lovely Day,

I'll be linking up here today:

*I was not compensated for this post.
It is simply my {love} of books and reading, wanting to share it with you.

On the Wings Of...{Thoughtful on a Tuesday}

Traveling down the highway...
worship music playing softly in the background...
when {it} catches my eye.

A large bird beginning its flight out of the grass filled ditch.

It takes off...
facing head long, neck stretched into the wind.
Its wings spread wide and then I see it...

The winds of the day...
push back,
blow back,
ruffles the feathers,
of this creature God has made.

It does not fall to the ground,
it does not press harder into the wind,

it surrenders.

Its body relaxes,
its head turns,
and the rest of him follows suit.

It is gliding,
going where the wind goes.

And I wonder...

How much easier, peaceful, would my life be if I was like this bird in my walk with God about everything?

...to quit striving
...to quit planning
… to not fall into thinking “my way” is the best

and instead
…soar on the promises,
and trust in God.

It is only when we cease striving and know that He is God....
{Psalm 46:10a}

those who hope in the LORD
  will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
  they will run and not grow weary,
  they will walk and not be faint.
{Isaiah 40:31}

{thankful for God’s blessings all around}

What brings you peace?

Have a Lovely Day,
